Three Color Nails ~ Gradient Nail Art Tutorial

Hey everyone. I have this gorgeous Three Color Nails Art for you. I chose my colors to be Red, Gold and Black. It looks so royal and vintage. I used a makeup sponge to bring the Ombre effect in this Nail Design. This is so simple to do yet it looks very glamorous. I feel like this design has a festive feeling to it. Don’t you think this is a Nail Art for that little black dress. I’m Imagining in my head, how awesome it will look with a black dress.

Items and Tools I Used

  • Base Coat
  • Gold Nail Polish – Bold Gold by Maybelline Color Show
  • Red Nail Polish – Keep up the Flame by Maybelline Colorshow
  • Black Nail polish – Black Creme
  • Makeup Sponge
  • Metallic Golden Nail Art Beads
  • Small Dotting tool
  • Top Coat

How I did the Nail Design

Always start your Nail Art by applying base coat polish. It will prevent your nails from staining and help your design to stay longer. Then paint your nails with the gold nail polish. let it dry completely.

Apply Red, then Gold and then Black polish on the makeup sponge. Place the sponge onto the nail to transfer the colors. You may need to do repeat the process multiple times till you get the desired color. I did three layers. Using a sponge brings out the perfect gradient effect.

Effect is nice but its messy for sure. So dip a Q tip into polish remover and cleanup around your nails. This may take a bit of time to clean up but it’s worth it. when you will be done with with the Nail Art, you won’t regret it.There are many other ways to avoid this messy process which I will discuss in a later post.

After you are done with the cleanup, apply clear polish and place the gold beads where the colors meet. Seal the whole design with top coat and you are done with your awesome ombre nails.

What a great article on three color nail art. Forwarded this to my sister because she goes crazy for this kind of stuff. Looks really nice but are you sure that anyone can do this because that looks so difficult to master. Thanks a lot for writing this out!

    1. Hi Jes..Thank you for stopping by..I hope your sister will like it.I think, this very design is possible for others to do it as not much detail decoration needed. Just placing a sponge with colors on the nails. she can try if she wants to 🙂

  2. omg! Those nails look like a lumpy german flag!

  3. hi
Wow I would have never thought about using a sponge to do this nail art. It seems to work well but it also seems time consuming and somewhat messy. How long did it take you to do it?I do like the combo of colors, very festive and would certainly stand out against a black dress

    1. Hi Emily..Thank you for stopping by..The Nail Art took only five minutes to do..Clean up took around ten minutes..But you can certainly avoid the mess applying scotch tape around your nails and when the nail art is done you can remove the tape..It will save you 🙂 I was too lazy to do that so I ended up making a big mess.:) There are peel off base coat available. You can apply that around your nails before doing the nail art and later you can easily remove it from the skin around your nails. This way you will have no clean up to do afterwards!

  4. Awesome post. You are really got talent on this. I did not know that nails can bring people such a great job.
