Paint Halloween Nails ~ Graveyard Nail Art

Hey everyone! Hope you are enjoying the colorful autumn. Today I want to show you, how I’m planning to paint Halloween Nails this season. I simply came across a graveyard scenery image and got the idea of this Graveyard Nail Art. Like many of my other nail tutorials, I used all acrylic paint for this design. It’s simple to do and very easy to recreate. If you don’t have acrylic paint, you can use water colors too. Let me show you how I paint these Graveyard scenery on my nails.

Paint Halloween Nails

Items and Tools I Used

  • Base Coat
  • Acrylic Paint – Black and White
  • Nail Art Detail Brush
  • Nail Art Flat Brush
  • Top Coat

How I did the Nail Design

Start by applying base coat polish on your nails and let it dry. Base Coat protects your natural nails and keeps the manicure longer. It also prevents stains and yellowness overtime. In this particular nail design, I used all acrylic paint start to finish. So, a good base coat polish is highly important as the paint on its own won’t stay well on nails.

I wanted a grayish white for the background color and I didn’t have such a color polish in my collection. So I customized it by mixing very little black acrylic paint with white. With acrylic paints, you get the flexibility to create any color you want. I used a Flat brush to paint all the nails with the grayish white. Once the paint is completely dry, seal it with top coat for further art work.

With black acrylic paint on the nail art detail brush, cover the nail tips unevenly to create the impression of ground. Draw tiny lines upwards to create grass like effect. Make two crosses on the thumb. I did different designs on each nail. Some nails a single cross and some nails bars. Be creative and add your own ideas.

After the paint dries, seal the whole design with Top Coat and you are done! See the video tutorial below for a clear idea.

  1. Wow! What an artist! I would love to be able to do that on my nails but I’m not sure how long it will take me; how long did it take you? I guess that I would have to erase more than one nail and start it all over again πŸ˜€ But I will try! Love the idea, I’ve got the costume and the makeup, why not perfecting it by adding my nails? Thank you! πŸ˜‰

    • Hi Luz..Thank you for the appreciation. It took me about thirty minutes for this nail design. One good way to do nail art if you afraid of the messiness, then use water based acrylic paint and seal the design with top coat after each step and let it dry. This way if one step goes wrong, you can simply wash it water and do the rest of the design.

  2. These nails are beautiful! I don’t think I would be able to get the design to come out so neat looking, it would just end up looking like a blob haha.

Very inspiring though – I will give this a try some time. This really awakens the artist in me!

  3. hi Demi!
Nice graveyard design for Halloween! And it seems like it is quite easy to do with acrylic paint. I know my nail lady always uses acrylic paint to do designs on my nails. I am not a fan of a white polish. Just my personal preference as it seems to turn somewhat yellow over time. Has that happened to you? I am having my nails done next week and I think I will go for a fall look, such as leaves.

    • Hi Emily, Thank you for liking the nails art. I feel acrylic paint is very flexible to work with. I have come across some white polishes which turns yellow overtime. Then I found Sinful Colors “Snow White” and very happy with that.

  4. My sister is MASSIVELY into her nails and has different decorations for different occasions πŸ™‚ This Halloween she is doing some kind of blood splatters, but I’ll show her this – I know she’ll love it!! πŸ™‚

  5. Wow Great post my wife loves nail polish, this article sure she will like it :), the video is so amazing and very easy to follow the instructions, nice post & happy Halloween πŸ™‚
